Well, folks, it’s official! In a press release this weekend, Lime announced that its dockless bike-share program will not be returning to Calgary next summer. Lime’s e-bike program was slated to continue through October 2020. However, it’s been cut short due to Calgary’s overwhelming preference for its scooters.

That makes sense. We actually wrote a little article about the kinds of numbers that Lime and Bird were putting up last year, and their scooters were practically off the charts. In August, combined scooter trips were averaging around 10k per day. Not bad at all.

But, a fair portion of Calgary commuters will lose out on the convenience of the bike program. The added carrying capacity made it a little easier for daily commuters, especially when conditions weren’t great. We’d rather be on a bike than a scooter in the rain, you know?

There’s no word yet on whether or not another company will take the Lime bike-share market in Calgary. We’ll update you if that happens, though!

Happy commuting, Calgary!
