We’re simple people. We see frozen bubbles, we cry happy tears. Most people are familiar with Abraham Lake’s gorgeous methane pockets, but not everyone knows that you can go on a bubble hunt right here in Calgary.

A natural byproduct of the organic matter that decomposes on the floor of all lakes, the mesmerizing icy designs may not seem that special. But if you’ve seen any of the gorgeous bubble pics that float around on Insta, you’ll understand why people around the world flock to the Rockies to check them out.

If Mission’s your backyard, you’re in luck. These gorgeous orbs can be found at Elbow Island Park! If you’re not familiar with the area, all you have to do is head to the middle of the Elbow River, under the Mission Bridge at Fourth Street SW. Et voila! Bubble paradise.

Since Abraham’s a bit of a jaunt (3.5 hours, in fact), this could save you quite a bit of time. But if you’re down for an adventure, we do hear the lake there is definitely roadie worthy. And if you’re feeling an in between, Kananaskis has some gorgeous frozen views, too.

Wherever you end up, make sure to tag us in your bubble pics! Who knows, you might even end up on the Curiocity page…
