It’s starting to get warm. Our skin is remembering what Vitamin D feels like. Memories of our tears freezing on our face as we scrape an inch of ice off our windshield are fading. Seeing our parka in the closet isn’t giving us flashbacks to polar vortex sorrows. Ah, summer! Canadians know how to embrace the warm season better than anyone else. So, make the absolute most of the sacred summer months with some of the greatest summer bucket list activities in Calgary! Vive la warmth!

BANDWAGON ON THE SUMMER SPORT TRAIN

Summer is the perfect time to let your pain from the Flames’ last playoff run (can we even call it that?) go. Watch football or soccer instead– it may not cause you less stress, but it will certainly be warmer on the toes.

Where: McMahon Stadium & Spruce Meadows

VISIT THE NEW SUNFLOWER MAZE

Wide open spaces, a lot of yellow, and air that smells so addictive you wonder if they’re distilling cocaine essential oils. We’re talkin’ Sunmaze baby! For years, Bowden one has dominated the sunflower scene in Calgary, and rightfully so! But now Cobb’s version is here too (and they have KANGAROOS).

Where: 1500 84th Street NE

PATIO HOP LIKE NO ONE’S EVER PATIO HOPPED BEFORE

calgary patio pet friendly

Aching for a vacation down in the Caribbean? Too bad, pal. This is the real world. You can’t just take a week off and rip down to the beach for a million Pina Coladas and a tan, but you can rip down to Ricardo’s (or any of our other patio picks) for a dozen rum cocktails. It’s a compromise, but not a half bad one at all.

Where: Throughout the city

EAT SOME CERTIFIABLY WEIRD STUFF AT STAMPEDE

Look, it’s not a Calgary summer unless you push yourself to new limits at the ‘Pede. So eat up Calgs– we’ve got a helluva lot of options to pick from. Apparently, pickles are big right now. Like, very big. And so are bug bowls… yikes.

Where: 1410 Olympic Way SE

WATCH OUTDOOR MOVIES

Calgary has a weirdly decent amount of outdoor movie screenings this summer. We aren’t mad about it, because it makes having a late movie night that much more summery and ~special~.

TRY ALL OF CALGARY’S TOP SANDWICHES

Summer bod who? Sorry, we’re taking a Fiona the baby hippo approach to this summer (we ain’t plannin’ on losing weight). What we do plan on losing, though, is our Fried Chicken Sammie virginity.

TAKE A WINERY TOUR

Rose all day, are we right ladies?! Cheers to making the mistake of boozing in a romper so you end up naked every time you’re in the bathroom!

TRY AN ALL-NEW PEDAL-POWERED PATIO

pedal pub

A relative newcomer to Calgary, having only started late last summer, Pedal Pub is devoted to showcasing the local craft beer scene in the most fun way possible. And yeah, you’re gonna turn some heads on this music-blasting, beer-chugging party machine.

Where: 1417 9 Ave SE

Get your short shorts on and go enjoy some summer activities in Calgary and Alberta. You’ve earned it by shivering so hard you cracked a tooth this winter. Or was that just us?
