Hey, guys. Bad News Barry, here again. Unfortunately, those planning on hitting up the Sled Island Music Festival will have to wait until next year to do so. Organizers have just announced that the 2020 event has been cancelled to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which, as we always like to remind you, is for the best. (Despite the fact that it totally sucks.)

This year’s lineup included artists like Pussy Riot, Sun Ra Arkestra, and The Black Angels, who will be unable to travel due to current travel restrictions.

“While this news obviously comes as a huge disappointment, we would like to acknowledge and applaud that the City is taking this necessary step to contain the spread of COVID-19 and alleviate the pressure on our health care system to best care for those affected by it,” the festival organizers said on their website.

The statement went on, not only to recognize how this would affect the musicians but also how it would hurt the crews, venues, and partners who would have worked on the event.

So why a straight cancellation and not a later date? Well, according to their release, the “scope and nature” of the festival would make it impossible.

The festival finished the statement stating that they absolutely would be issuing refunds, and reminding everyone to “Stay safe, stay home” and “stay hopeful.”

Until next year, Sled Island Music Festival. 2020 just won’t be the same without you. Here’s to 2021!
