Trudeau releases details on Canada’s new 75% wage subsidy program

COVID-19 emergency response

Earlier this morning, Justin Trudeau continued on last week’s 75% wage subsidy announcement for qualified businesses across Canada. Today, Trudeau expanded on that initiative by saying that any business whose revenue has fallen by 30% will now be eligible.

This is a massive announcement, as it does not restrict the size of the business that can apply for the program. The number of employees simply does not factor in anymore, and the new program applies to non-profits and charities as well.

According to Trudeau, the new move is to ensure that people can still get paid, whether they have 3 coworkers or 3000. For workers, this also means that 75% of the first $58,700 of any salary will be covered.

Companies across Canada will be feeling relief from the new announcement. From trucking and logistics to energy and certainly hospitality, no sector in Canada has been untouched by COVID-19.

And now, a lot more people will start to see relief.
