This tranquil Japanese garden is one of the most beautiful places you’ll find in Alberta

More than anything else during COVID, we miss being able to travel internationally. Luckily, thanks to strong cultural ties and a diverse population, Albertans don’t have to look any further than their own province to experience global artistry, food, and tradition. One of their most beautiful examples of this can actually be found in Lethbridge. Built in 1967, the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens were established as a symbol of friendship between Japan and Canada and remains today, an emblem of togetherness and celebration.

This spot is gorgeous and above all, intricate AF, but there’s no need to just take our word for it. Last year at the North American Garden Tourism Conference it was named one of the 10 most ‘worth it’ places to travel for in all of North America.

Before anything was drawn up or even discussed, it was decided and agreed that the gardens needed to be of the highest quality. Seeing this place, that really doesn’t come to us as much of a surprise.

From the way the water flows through it, to the flowers and trees handpicked and planted, deeper meaning is found everywhere. It’s expert landscaping isn’t the only thing to rave about though!

The Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens are also a ton of fun. Enjoy a meditation class, sip yourself silly during one of their happy hours, even cuddle with kittens on Caturday’s! Also in the winter, they have the most amazing light festival.

Seriously, folks, the food is incredible, the staff is beyond lovely, there’s a ton of photo op’s and the fresh air might actually do you some good. Why not check it out? We might even see you there!
