The newest exhibit at the Esker Foundation is insanely trippy (and free!)

We wouldn’t recommend getting into anything “recreational” before checking out the Esker Foundation’s newest exhibit, guys. Sculptural artist Katie Ohe has created abstract visuals that make you feel weightless and uneasy, almost simultaneously.

If you’ve never been to the Esker Foundation, here’s the need-to-know!

The Esker is a privately funded modern art gallery here in Calgary. Through education, relevant exhibits, and programs, they hope to connect to the public. By sharing groundbreaking work, like Katie Ohe, they also hope to create a conversation. We think with this one, it’s safe to say they have succeeded.

Photos don’t do Ohe’s work justice. This exhibit goes from ‘silver underwater acid trip’ to ‘mushroom tea-induced soul search in the Rockies’ in only a matter of a few pieces. It’s a bit to take in, but man, is it worth checking out. This woman is incredible.

For over 60 years, Ohe has taught, mentored, supported and contributed to Calgary’s rich contemporary art community. If you think about it, she’s kind of a perfect fit for the Esker. Her approach to materials and movement is unparalleled, and her craftsmanship is top-notch. Not that we’re a pro art critique or anything, but we know cool when we see cool.

Entrance to the Esker Foundation Gallery is actually free, so there’s really no reason not to go, right? They’re open from 11 am – 6 pm from Tuesday to Thursday and on Saturday and Sunday. Then, they’re open 11 am – 8 pm on Fridays and closed on Monday. Everyone needs a day off!

This particular display will be at the Esker until May 3. We’ll check you out there, Calgary!
