The historic Plaza Theatre is closing its doors but could be saved by new operators

Alright, Calgary! It’s time to reach out to those rich uncles or movie-loving pals with some extra change in their pockets, ’cause one of Calgary’s most iconic entertainment spots is looking for a new tenant. The owner of the famed Plaza Theatre in Kensington is hoping someone will take over the lease as he moves on to retirement.

The Plaza Theatre is an unmistakable landmark in one of Calgary’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. It was built way, way back in the 1920s, and has been under ownership by the Edmonton-based Brar family for the past 40 years. It’s known as a fantastic spot to catch Indie flicks, underrated classics, and one hell of a Rocky Horror Picture Show party at Halloween.
Unfortunately (but understandably), the COVID-19 pandemic is what has pushed the owner into early retirement. Interested or know someone who might be the perfect person to take over this lease and carry on the Plaza Theatre’s legacy? If so, reach out to the Plaza Theatre and let’s keep this piece of Calgary history alive!
