Alberta’s most picturesque old-school diner is a day trip must

We’re not sure about you, but our weekends this summer have been filled with day trips. And, we think we’re going to cap it off with a trip to the Starlite Diner in Bowden, Alberta. This roadside spot has quickly become a cult classic, and for good reason.

Located in between Calgary and Edmonton, the Starlite Diner is unlike anything you’ll find in the province. One major reason for that? It’s actually a repurposed dining car. You know, from those old-timey cross country train trips.

And as an added bonus, there are a few nods to aliens thrown in too. The ufo above the restaurant itself is the most prominent, but look for some fun posters and signs inside as well. Heck, swing by a thrift store and bring them an alien-themed gift, maybe you’ll get a free burger for your troubles.

You might think that the Starlite Diner has been around forever, but it actually only opened in 2012. There’s a silver lining here though, because you could be that person 30 years from now who has a ‘regular’ decades-old road trip stop. Admit it, that’s an essential part of getting older.

Of course, we wouldn’t recommend this spot unless the food was actually worthwhile, too. Our advice? Still with the diner classics, whether it’s a hamburger or a clubhouse sandwich. And for breakfast, have worlds collide with an ‘Alien’ omelette.

Enjoy this spot, folks!
