Tents at the ready: Camping reservations for summer open soon!

Last summer wasn’t prime for camping. It would be lovely Monday-Friday, and then we’d get rained on. We are so ready for a do-over. We’re getting excited, because Alberta Parks will begin accepting reservations next week. There’s just something special about peeing in a bush, y’ know?

Unfortunately, before rallying troops for an August long romp, you should know that campsites may only be booked up to 90 days in advance. Sorry guys, you’ll have a bit of waiting to do before you can snag a spot during prime time. On the bright side, that gives some of you a little more time to work on your acoustic fireside rendish of “Wonderwall.”

Bookings will be staggered throughout this month based on camping type, beginning with the comfort campers. Yurts and cabin reservations will go live Tuesday, March 10th. Then on Tuesday, March 17th, feel free to book an individual campground! Group campsites will be the last to accept bookings, allowing reservations to be made as early as Tuesday, March 24th.

Depending on where you’re planning on claiming an individual campsite, the online system will open at a different time. Southern regions will be available at 9 am, Kananaskis Country and more central regions will open at 11 am. Finally, the northern and eastern regions will be available at 3 pm on March 17th.

The year also marks the very first that the online Alberta Parks reservations system will be available year-round! Which makes things hella easy to keep on top of things. Typically, devoted campers would have to wait for months after the season had ended to begin booking again in the spring.

Although the booking problem may have been patched, this year, in addition to having 20 fewer parks to choose from, campers are also seeing a price hike. Sites have been increased by $3 and the price of power services has increased by $1. Bummer.
