Sooo, remember when we told you about city officials asking for Calgarians’ help to revamp Stephen Avenue? The time has come. The City of Calgary and the Calgary Downtown Association just announced something big. Gehl Studio has been selected as the design partner tasked with reimagining Calgary’s downtown pedestrian hub!

According to Marco De Iaco, Executive Director of the Calgary Downtown Association, this redesign will be a huge improvement. We’re talkin’ “conditions that will attract private investment, economic growth, and amenities that can entice residents and visitors for years to come. It’s an important step in our effort to revitalize downtown.” We agree, Marc! Can we call you Marc?

From 11 Street SW to Olympic Plaza, Gehl Studio will focus on “extending the energy and vibrancy of the pedestrian mall westward. Additionally, they’ll be “creating a program for increasing private investment and redevelopment”. Finally, the goal is to create “short and long-term improvement strategies… to make Stephen Avenue better for Calgarians and visitors.” The work begins this month, and they’re asking the public’s opinion– so make sure to stay tuned for ways you can contribute!
