You know what they say though, D’s get degrees. Nah, just kidding, it’s probably not a good thing for Canadian adults to receive a ‘D’ in fitness levels. For the first time ever, Canadian non-profit ParticipACTION has released a report card for our country’s adults, and well, it could be better.

The seriously in-depth report card looks at everything from overall physical health to government support to intentions and community support. Let’s take a peek at some of the metrics.

First off, we’re seriously lacking in ‘Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity’, and it’s our only F grade. Only 16% of Canadians aged 18-79 are getting the recommended 150 minutes of MVPA a week. On the other hand, we got a C in ‘Daily Movement’, which found that 52% of Canadians in the age range walk over 7500 steps a day.

We got a B- and a B+ in the ‘Sleep’ and ‘Intentions’ categories respectively, too. So, Canadians are staying rested and they want to improve their fitness levels. That’s a bonus, especially when paired with decent government and good communities and environments.

Finally, there are a few metrics that ParticipACTION wants to use but lacks the appropriate guidelines for. Hopefully, by next year we will be able to see how we do when it comes to things like sedentary behaviour, the workplace and overall balance.
