Canada health officials now encouraging public non-medical mask use

In a press conference earlier this morning, the top health officials in Canada officially recommended the public use of non-medical face masks. Now, this is kind of weird to tackle, but we’re going to do it nonetheless.
Before you ask, no, there is zero evidence (so far) of this virus being airborne. However, the health officials did notice that the presymptomatic and asymptomatic spreading of the virus was occurring. ‘Pre’ just means before symptoms show up, and ‘A’ means no symptoms showing in general. Plus, how or if the virus travels throught the air has been one of the most divisive parts of the pandemic.

For that reason, a recommendation is being put out to wear non-medical facemasks in high traffic, public areas. Going to the grocery store? Throw on a bandana, a folded t-shirt, or something along those lines.
Now, to make sure one thing is absolutely clear: if you are experiencing any symptoms, don’t go anywhere!! Social distancing is still the most effective way of us stopping the spread of symptoms.
Also, wearing this mask is more for the safety of others than yourself. Dr. Theresa Tam says “wearing a non-medical mask is an additional measure that you can take to protect others around you.”
In order to keep yourself safe, the Government of Canada is still strongly recommending frequent hand washing and avoiding face touching (even if wearing a mask). All in all, the idea of a non-medical mask is that it is an additional measure that can help to stop the spread.
