Drum roll, please! It’s going to be an exciting few years for the Calgary Stampede. Today, they finally unveiled their design for the brand new BMO Centre expansion in Victoria Park!

Firms Stantec, Populous and S2 Architecture have been chosen by the Calgary Stampede and development partner Calgary Municipal Land Corporation to design and build the $500 million project… and we can absolutely see why.

The plans for this one-million-square-foot building are incredible, and completely reinvent the original 38-year-old space. This expansion will add 350,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space, which will be available for rent, along with modernized conference rooms.

Post-construction the new BMO is projected to add $233 million into Alberta’s economy, in addition to the millions that the Calgary Stampede brings in every year. In 2019, the CS contributed $700 million to Canada’s economy, with $540 million of that staying within the province.

This building will also support approximately 1,757 year-round jobs, and will help Calgary establish itself as what Mayor Naheed Nenshi called “the ultimate host city.’

“As we prepare Calgary for the future, solidifying our role as the ultimate host city will be a major driver of jobs and economic activity. The expanded BMO Centre is going to be a major draw for tourism and travel,” says Nenshi.

The BMO Centre expansion in Victoria Park will take a few years to complete, with doors expected to open June 2024 just in time for the Calgary Stampede.

What a year that’ll be.
