It seems like forever since we could realistically plan an extremely unrealistic trip to a Disney theme park. There was something invigorating about looking up plane tickets and hotels alone in bed at 3 am, only to cry yourself to sleep because it’s actually so freaking expensive to go to Disneyworld. The park is set to reopen in July, but without character meet and greets, and nighttime shows, is it really even worth it? No ma’am! Instead, we’re sharing with you the 5 Disney+ documentaries that made us feel like we were on one of their parks or in one of their timeless classics.

Empire of Dreams

The force is strong with this one. In Empire of Dreams, see exclusive behind the scenes footage, deleted scenes, and interviews with the original cast of George Lucas’s very first Star Wars. This documentary is practically a ‘how-to’ on creating iconic, timeless films, and is totally worth the watch.

The Imagineering Story

Disney’s Imagineering Story is an incredible watch. This might actually be one of the most enjoyable documentaries, Disney+ or otherwise, we’ve ever seen. The series takes the viewer on a visual journey from Walt’s pre-park ideas to more recently added attractions, like the ambitious Avatar Park in Disney World. Honestly, in addition to just seeing a lot of behind the scenes stuff and original concepts for legendary rides, you’ll also fall in love with some of the featured Imagineers.

Prop Culture

Disney’s Prop Culture got us right in the feels. We consider ourselves a bit of a cinephile and love us some movie/TV replicas. From Mary Poppins’s umbrella, the swords from Pirates of the Caribbean, and the wardrobe from The Chronicles of Narnia, host Dan Lanigan has practically searched the world for original and iconic props from some of Disney’s most beloved films. In this docuseries, see cast members reunited with co-stars both living and inanimate, and maybe shed a tear or two.

Titanic: 20 Years Later

If you haven’t watched Titanic at least 3 to 5 times in your life, you’re either lying or afraid to feel something real.  Titanic is arguably one of the best films in history, and the tragedy behind the film is just as fascinating as it was devastating. In Titanic: 20 Years Later, James Cameron who wrote and directed the 1997 classic as well as Titanic experts travel back to the original wreckage 370 miles under the sea.

Frank and Ollie

Nothing beats the original Disney films, sorry guys. After all, the foundation is the most important part of the entire building, and without movies like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Bambi, we wouldn’t have Moana or Frozen. Frank and Ollie are two of the 9 members of an elite squad of creators who worked directly with Walt Disney himself. The documentary is a little dated because it was done back in 1995, but that hardly takes away from what you’ll learn… or feel.

There you have it, folks. The best documentaries, are documentaries that will make you forget that you’re actually learning something! Happy watching.
