This Canadian AI company may be able to quickly identify COVID patients

It’s really no secret that over the last month, COVID-19 testing kits have been scarce. In order to beat this thing, hospitals worldwide need more employees, more protection, and more than one way to diagnose patients. Luckily, DarwinAI may have found a solution to one of the biggest problems facing the health care industry.
DarwinAI, a Canadian company that develops technology for companies like Audi and Honeywell, believes they may have created an open-source AI tool capable of identifying Coronavirus infections.
Using an X-Ray and the software, the tool appropriately named COVID-Net is able to show lung damage caused by the virus. The process is quick, cheap and accessible, which means it could change the game entirely.

“Our hope is that COVID-Net will be used and built upon by clinicians, researchers, and citizen data scientists,” said the founder of DarwinAI in a report written by the Unversity of Waterloo where it was developed.
Some may be skeptical, which is understandable. However, in order to increase a patient or a doctor’s confidence in the technology, they’ve actually made their findings public! Here, they show how their software reaches its virus detection decisions.
