An American website that helps you receive compensation for delayed or cancelled flights recently released a list breaking down the world’s top airlines. They were ranked on both the average delay time of an airline as well as the ease of receiving compensation.

According to the website, roughly 24% of all flights are delayed by 15 minutes or more. From there, the average delay time was around 47 minutes. Finally, airlines that were obligated to compensate took on average 4 months to do so. Talk about a waiting game.

The best airline in the world on these metrics was South African Airways, with 82% of flights arriving on time and an average delay time of 40 minutes. WestJet, the highest ranked Canadian airline, came in 8th. They had about 78% of flights go smoothly and an average delay of 47 minutes.

Meanwhile, Air Canada did not do so hot at all, coming in at 48th on the list. These guys only had around 69% (nice) of flights landing on time and an average delay of 51 minutes.

Both Air Canada and WestJet had similar scores when it came to processing and providing compensation claims, though, so they’re on equal footing there.

So this answers your question about whether the airlines hate you, specifically, as a passenger. Turns out they don’t, you’re just unlucky.
