5 fun things to do while staying in Calgary May long weekend

Wow, May long weekend just snuck up on us, didn’t it? We’re not going to lie… without the last-minute scramble to find a campsite or a pre-planned hiking trip, we completely forgot all about it this year. Obviously, May long 2020 is going to look a bit differently than it has in the previous years, but that doesn’t mean it has to be any less fun! The province begins opening May 14th, which means this weekend, we’ll have a few more options! Even if you’re not ready to back out into the world, you now have three days to kick it. How exciting! In case you need some help, here are 5 fun things to do this May long weekend.

Kick it all off by joining in on the Balcony Bash

The YYC Balcony Bash is by far, the most colourful way Calgarians have been communicating while physically distancing themselves from their neighbours. This lively event kicks off at 6:30 every Friday night with music live from the rooftop patio at Broken City and is broadcast on Twitch for the rest of the city! Join the party!

Go Golfing

As part of phase one in Alberta’s relaunch, the city has opened all city-run golf courses to the public. Make yourself a tee time, pull out those clubs, and get a few swings in this long weekend for the first time since last year!

Go for a leisurely bike ride

You’ve got the need. The need for speed! Hop on a bike and get some fresh air this long weekend! No bike? No problem! We’ve put together a list of the best distance friendly shops where you can buy a new whip!

Take on a DIY garden project

Check out one of Glow Garden’s wholesale pop-up garden centres located in every quadrant in Calgary! You’ve got three days to get that Pinterest project you promised yourself you’d do off the ground! Go get your thumbs green, folks.

Buckle down and binge something you’ve been meaning to since the beginning of isolation

Still not ready to get out and about? That’s totally understandable! We all have that one show to fall back on. You know, that one that your friend told you months ago that you’d “love so much” because it’s “life-changing?” You’ve got three days, work, and interruption-free to crush it.

There you have it! Live it up, Calgary. We’ve got gorgeous weather to look forward to AND an extra day off. Enjoy yourselves!
