Ox Bar de Tapas on 17th Ave seems to be closing down for good

Via Culinaire

Calgary seems to be losing a little slice of tapas heaven. Local favourite Ox Bar de Tapas appears to be shuttering for good.

The news comes through OpenTable, which now lists the 17th Ave spot as permanently closed. Nothing yet on their end, but it seems they’re completely done accepting customers. This wouldn’t be the most shocking thing, considering how rising rents and road construction have been making life extra hard on 17th Ave businesses in the last couple of years. In fact, long-time vegetarian favourite The Coup announced recently that they are closing doors soon and may be leaving the are completely.

Ox Bar is (was) a modern space serving Spanish-inspired small plates. The full bar was a solid choice for cocktails, and weekend brunch had always been a solid draw.

Well, it’s a harsh world out there on 17th Avenue. No shock that another great spot is closing down. We’ll update you if it seems that they’re planning on making a revival elsewhere in the city. fingers crossed!
