Alberta is set to begin launching its economy on May 14th, but some businesses feel like it might be too early. Calgary hotspot, Ship and Anchor announced in a lengthy post on their Facebook page Tuesday, that they are not planning on reopening their doors next weekend.

Although the pub will continue to offer delivery and take out services, patrons will not be able to grab a beer on their popular 17th Avenue patio until they feel it’s safe to do so.

“There is still a lot of work required to figure out how to set up for the pub to operate, including sourcing a supply of suitable PPE for our staff and figuring out how we can provide the ‘distancing’ required to operate safely and within the guidelines.”

“The very good work of the Alberta health system and key frontline workers in the province have resulted in a glint of sunshine, but the storm is still here, and it will be here for quite some time,” they continued.

“Often what is safe is not necessarily customer-friendly, and what is customer-friendly is not necessarily safe.”

Well, we’d be lying if we said we didn’t miss being able to bite into a Ship Burger to the stylings of a local Irish punk band, but we commend them for sticking to their guns.

Man, when they do open, the Ship and Anchor is going to be crazy! You can bet your bottom dollar we’ll be there.
