Calgary has Canada’s Best Designed Restaurant (PHOTOS)

We don’t mean to pump our own tires, but Calgary has some seriously amazing restaurants. How amazing? Some of the best in the country, to be exact.
Everyone knows Calcutta Cricket Club is an unbelievable place to grab Indian, but not everyone knows that the West Bengal eatery won the 2018 title of Best Designed Restaurant In Canada.

We know, we’re impressed too. But not at all surprised. Designed by local artist Maya Gohill, this place is popping with eye-catching stuff.
From the rattan screens to the vintage chairs to the omnipresent green and pink accents, we can’t get enough of the Golden Girls x 60’s Indian Social Club crossover.

It’s eclectic, it’s inviting, and it’s certainly a nice escape from the perma-winter that we seem to have in Calgary. Maya designed it with inspiration from her South Asian upbringing but made sure to infuse Western pop culture pieces as well.
You’ll find eBay and Kijiji purchases decorating the space here, but the most important piece is definitely Garry the ex-carousel cat. He hangs protectively over the bottles at the bar, so if you were thinking of going klepto with the fancy gin, think again. Sharp teeth on that guy.

Instead, get your fix by ordering one of Calcutta’s delicious cocktails. From the mango and chili-infused Crushable Gin + Tonic to the rosemary and lemon-focused Kali Ma, you really can’t make a bad choice.
Pair your sips with some rainbow crisps (“to encourage drinking”, in Calcutta’s words) and some salty-sweet-spicy Chilli Chicken, and you’re golden.

Whatever you do, don’t leave this place without taking a few pics for the ‘gram. After all, it’s not every day that you get a chance to pose with a celebrity feline.
