9 must-see concerts coming to Calgary this September

Via Eric Church / Ticketmaster

Yes, summer is over. No, that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop having fun. Instead, kick September off with booking some of the awesome concerts coming to Calgary. Artists of all types and genres are coming through town, so we’ve put together a quick list of some of the best picks. Here are 9 upcoming September concerts you should check out in Calgary!

Carly Rae Jepsen

She’s a pop star who has what might be the catchiest tune of all time. She’s also a Canadian, so supporting her is doing a service to your fellow Canuck. Win-win!

When: Wednesday, September 4
Where: MacEwan Hall
Cost: $39-$169

Sleep

Sure, they’ve got a chill name, but a Sleep concert will be the exact opposite of a snoozefest. In fact, they are a ‘doom metal’ band, so that should be enough to let you know what to expect.

When:  Wednesday, September 4
Where:  The Palace Theatre, 219 8 Ave SW
Cost: $51.75

grandson

If you’re not familiar with the alt-rock/alt-hip hop creations of Canadian-American singer grandson, then do yourself a favour and check him out. Oh, and good news! If you like his stuff, he’s coming to Calgary for a show this week.

When:  Thursday, September 5
Where:  The Gateway, 1301 16 Ave NW
Cost: $32

George Canyon, Charlie Major, Doc Walker

Craving country music and the CCMA’s just aren’t cutting it for you? Well, fair enough, pardner! This trio of cowboys has all of your twang-needs covered.

When: Saturday, September 7
Where: Deerfooot Inn & Casino, 11500 35 St SE
Cost: $61+

CCMA Awards

Iconic mullet man Billy Ray Cyrus was just announced as co-host for the CCMA Awards, which are going down at none other than the Scotiabank Saddledome. We’re hoping he rocks an Old Town Road-inspired look with fellow host Dallas Smith, but either way we’re sure it’s gonna be a crazy show.

When: Sunday, September 8
Where: Scotiabank Saddledome
Cost: $57+

UB40

Alright, so we don’t know that many UB40 songs. That being said, we would happily be lowered into our grave (hundreds of years from now, obviously) with “Red red wiiiiIIIIIIiiine” wailing out as our closest friends and family pour out a $9 bottle of Vino to honour a real one.

When: Wednesday, September 11
Where: Grey Eagle Event Centre
Cost: $49

Big Rock Barn Burner Concert

Tokyo Police Club, Mt. Joy, and Scenic Route to Alaska are going to be lighting the night up at this brewery grounds banger of a show. Enjoy great tunes, $6 Big Rock beers and ciders, and some of Calgary’s favourite food trucks.

When: Saturday, September 14
Where: Big Rock Brewery, 5555 76 Ave SE
Cost: $49

Eric Church

If you don’t shed a single tear every time you hear Springsteen, we don’t know if we can be friends. For the rest of us soft country folk, Eric Church’s concert will be a magical twangy time. Actually, he’s playing back-to-back nights, so you can jam out twice with this legend.

When:  Friday, September 20 & Saturday, September 21
Where: Scotiabank Saddledome
Cost: $63-$391

Lil Mosey

As another up-and-comer with Soundcloud-esque roots and a couple Lyrical Lemonade videos under his belt, Lil Mosey will surely put on a show that will make his Calgary fans happy.

When: Friday, September 27
Where: MacEwan Hall, UofC
Cost: $30-$120

Those are our picks for some of the best concerts coming to Calgary during September. Enjoy!
