Alright, junior astrophysicists – we know that you guys are still hot off of the Geminid meteor shower but it’s not time to cool down just yet. This month, Jupiter and Saturn will appear in the night sky closer than they have in 400 years.

On Monday, December 21st the solar systems’ two largest planets will look almost as if they are about to collide which hasn’t actually happened since 1623 – when (fun fact) – it was still nearly impossible to see because the sun was too close.

This is what scientists call a ‘great conjunction,’ and we’ve got a front-row seat!

In order to see this for yourselves, first, you’ll need a good view of the southwestern horizon. Now, although you will be able to see it with the naked eye, a pair of binoculars or a telescope is recommended – that’s if it isn’t super cloudy.

Unfortunately – or fortunately, because December is for crappy weather you’ll also be able to see the entire phenomenon happen on Youtube where it will be live-streamed starting on the 21st at 5 pm MST.

Chances are, we probably won’t be around several hundred years ago from now, so you won’t want to miss it. It’s going to be pretty cool!
