Council has given the systemic anti-racism public hearing an official date

Great news, guys! Last week, during a city council meeting, Calgary officials unanimously voted in favour of a systemic anti-racism motion. In addition to promising that they will further educate themselves by taking several courses taught by professionals, they also agreed to hold a public hearing on the subject. We’re happy to announce that as of today, that hearing officially has a date!

We, as a city and as a country still have a long way to go, but we’re hoping that this will give officials a stronger foundation in which they can continue making Calgary a more inclusive social and political climate.

Thanks to the thousands of people taking to the streets this month demanding change, Calgary will open the floor for what will likely be two days, encouraging those who have felt like their voices and concerns haven’t been heard to speak to them directly.

Though they’re still working out the finer details, the public hearing will take place on Tuesday, July 7th. Congrats, Calgary! We’re incredibly proud of you. Keep fighting the good fight and stay safe! We’ll be watching, listening and learning from and with you.
