Two Calgary contestants make it onto Top Chef Canada

Maybe we’re biased, but some of Canada’s best chefs have to be from Alberta. We have some crazy great programs and a few world-renowned restaurants here, so it’s no surprise that the Food Network’s Top Chef Canada has cast two contestants from Calgary for its eighth season, which premiers this spring.
Elycia Ross is a 27-year-old single mother and chef and owner of YYC’s Lil’ Truck on the Prairie. She has earned nominations for both Best Food Truck in Calgary and Calgary’s Best Chef, so, you could say she knows her way around a kitchen.
Next month, Ross will go head to head against Nils Schneider and 10 other contestants from across Canada. 27-year-old Schneider began his career as the exec sous chef at Argrius in Victoria B.C., has worked in Beijing, China and is currently the pastry chef at Calgary’s Hotel Arts.

Chefs will have to impress a panel of judges, which includes host and fellow chef Eden Grinshpan and Mark McEwan, chef and head judge of the show. Also on the panel is Vancouver food blogger and personality Mijune Pak, restaurateur Janet Zaccarini, and food critic Chris Nuttall-Smith.
The winner will snag a $100,000 prize, a new 2020 Lexus self-charging hybrid electric SUV, and an eight-night guided tour of Italy. Uhm, wow.
You can catch the new season of Top Chef Canada when it premiers, Monday, April 13th at 11 pm MST! Hey Elycia, Nils? If either of you wins and needs a companion on your Italy trip, we happily volunteer our time. We’ve been told we make great company!
