Alberta’s film scene doesn’t get enough credit! We have some incredible writers, directors and actors, so it just makes sense to celebrate them. Today, The Calgary International Film Festival announced that they will do exactly that during the 21st annual CIFF with the Alberta Spotlight Section, a separate category featuring the most outstanding achievements in local cinema.

“It’s been an incredibly strong year for local film. With 111 Alberta film submissions, it was by far the largest number we’ve had to consider,” said Brenda Lieberman, CIFF’s Lead Programmer in a press release.
