Flames game on Sportsnet will feature all-female crew for women's day

In honour of this year’s Women’s Day, Sportsnet has decided to do something new! The network will air an all-female broadcast this Sunday during the Calgary Flames vs. Las Vegas Knights hockey game.

The March 8th hockey match will feature game analyst Cassie Campbell-Pascall and play-by-play announcer Leah Hextall. Reporter Christine Simpson will take the ice and the entire thing will also be produced by an all-female production team. This is all pretty exciting!

The broadcast will go live from Calgary, Toronto and Salmon Arm. Also, it will include Hometown Hockey Executive Producer Alison Redmond, Director Dawn Landis, and Game Producer Maria Skinner. They really mean all-female, and we love it!

“I’m proud to work with highly talented women, whose skill, experience and perspective allow us to deliver sports programming at its best,” Alison Redmond said in a release.

In addition to an all-female cast, Sportsnet will also celebrate trailblazing athletes with spotlight pieces. These pieces will feature tennis star Billie Jean King, Toronto Raptors Vice President of Basketball Operations Teresa Resch, and Stacey Allaster, former head of WTA.

“International Women’s Day is an opportunity to inspire young women and put a spotlight on what is possible while encouraging continued conversation and action to overcome gender-based barriers for women in the workplace,” Redmond continued.

The game (and the all-female broadcast) starts at 6:30 pm EST or 3:30 pm PST this Sunday, March 8th on Sportsnet. Happy Women’s Day, we’ll be watching!
