2020 has been wild, so this shouldn’t come as a total surprise – but for the first time in 19 years, North America will see a rare blue moon on the spookiest day of the year.

Unfortunately, no, although its name may suggest otherwise, the moon itself will not actually appear bright blue.

Typically, full moons only occur once a month, but – every three years, due to a blip on the calendar, we will see two within 31 days of each other.

This misleading moniker is just what they use to describe the second full moon in a single month if this is the case.

This particular year is special, because as we’ve already mentioned, for the very first time in nearly 20 years – the lunar phenomenon will occur on Halloween; a holiday synonymous with ghouls, werewolves, and frightening happenings.

Now, the moon will basically look full all night, but to really see this spooky boy at its peak, lift your eyes to the skies at 8:49 am MDT (11:49 eastern) on October 31st. It may not appear as bright, but it will be full!

Enjoy the moon, friends! And above all else, be safe out there this weekend! These are strange times, after all.
