Want to plant a tree? Check the city’s list of trees ‘best fit for Calgary’ first


“Stop right now… Thank you very much…” Before you even think about planning a tree, either to better the environment or just add a little something-something to your front yard, we want you to see something! For those who aren’t sapling connoisseurs, the city as actually put together an adorable list of ‘top tree species for Calgary.’
“Calgary is a unique growing climate, with weather conditions and challenges specific to our area,” they say on their website. “We’ve picked these species as examples of trees that grow well in Calgary’s variable weather.”

These folks were not playing when they put together this list, folks. They must’ve done some serious research because it’s extensive.
They’ve even categorized their list, into shade providers, Coniferous or Columnar, and fruit or flowering trees, so you can find the big green giant best for you.
Making a decision is tough, especially when it’s something you’ll have to commit to, and besides throwing together some kind of personality quiz that will tell you ‘which tree totally represents your best quality,’ (We think we’re an Oak, ourselves), this might be your best resource.
