8 things to do this week in Calgary (July 22 – 26)

Where on earth has July gone? We’re already more than halfway through the month, and if that doesn’t make you want to do some awesome things in Calgary then we don’t know what will. Heck, we’re stressed just thinking about it, so let’s take our minds off of summer disappearing with food events, concerts, festivals, and more. Here are 8 of the best things to do in Calgary this week.
Shakespeare By The Bow
What goes with a picnic and sunny afternoon in one of Calgary’s fave places? Shakespeare by the Bow! Soak up the scenery during Theatre Calgary’s annual outdoor production.
Where: Prince’s Island Park– 698 Eau Claire Ave SW
When: July 27 to August 18
Cost: Admission is pay-by-donation
Nick Cave: Feat. Exhibit
The newest exhibit to grace The Glenbow Museum, the Nick Cave: Feat. exhibit features the artist’s signature Soundsuits as well as sculpture, video and installation works. Nick Cave, often referred to as a “messenger” is interested in connecting people and ideas. Through Nick Cave’s brilliantly colourfully and politically charged art, he seeks to transform anger and despair into love, action, and possibility.
When: Runs throughout the month
Where: The Glenbow Museum
Cost: $11.00 – $18.00
Lougheed House Garden Festival
We love not spending money. We also love live outdoor concerts, beer gardens, tours, DJ, games, dog pawrades, theatre, music, and dancing… so it’s pretty sick that Lougheed Garden Fest has both!
When: Tuesday, July 23 @ 6:30 PM
Where: 707 – 13 Ave SW
Backstreet Boys
Backstreet’s back, alright! No actually, they’re back and they’re bringing dance moves via achy, aged knees to Calgary. Don’t let the boys down, go relive your glory years with them.
When: Wednesday, July 24
Where: Scotiabank Saddledome
Folk Fest
If you didn’t know, this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Calgary Folk Music Festival, and they have pulled out all the stops. Running four days at the end of July, the fest has over 70 artists on the lineup.
When: Thursday, July 25 to Sunday, July 28
Where: Prince’s Island Park
DJs in the Park
Nothing kicks off a July weekend better than some good old fashioned DJ jams! Bring a dinner picnic and your dance moves, we wanna see ’em!
When: Friday, July 26 @ 4PM
Where: Central Memorial Park– 1221 2 St SW
Calgary brewery walking tour
Beer and history? Now that’s something we can get behind. It’s like we’re being taken back to social studies class, if social studies was like 1000x more fun and hoppy.
When: Friday, July 26 @ 7:30 PM
Where: 1543 17 Ave SE
Summer recess at Deerfoot City
School’s out for summer! Join Deerfoot City on the patio every Thursday for lawn games, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, complimentary treats, and summer DJ vibes. Best part: it’s free!
