Oh hey there, it’s us again, Captian Obvious. We know you’re well aware, but Stampede will look a tad different this year. However, it might actually just be tastier than ever before! In order to commemorate YYC’s beloved event, bars, restaurants, local businesses and the CS organization themselves have put together a ton of smaller, more COVID-friendly get up’s that we can enjoy safely! Here are 8 things to do this weekend in Calgary!

HAVE A COLD ONE AT CRAFT’S STAMPEDE-ISH EVENT

This year, at all CRAFT locations, you can really take in the energy of the Calgary Stampede at a safe and responsible distance. These guys will have hay bales, wagon wheels, boots, hats, country tunes and cold beer, so basically everything you need for a proper Cowtown party!

When: Friday, July 3rd – 10th
Where: See the nearest location here

CHOW DOWN ON FREE PANCAKES

It’s clear that this year, the spirit of the Stampede lives in midway food and drive-thru events. This Saturday, the Calgary Stampede is hosting a FREE flapjack bonanza at Cross Iron Mills. This event requires that you register beforehand, so we’d recommend you do so ASAP!

When: Saturday, July 4th
Where:  261055 Crossiron Blvd, Rocky View County,
Time: 9 am – 12 pm

ESCAPE TO THE MOUNTAINS AND TAKE IN THE VIEW

This weekend, breathe in that Alberta fresh mountain air while taking in an incredible view. Check out some of our favourite photo-worthy hikes and thank us later! Yeah, your legs might feel stiff the next day, but we promise it’ll have been worth it!

GRAB SOME GRUB AT THE STAMPEDE FOOD TRUCK RALLY

Of course, we’re upset that the Stampede has been cancelled this year, but man are we glad that this is how they chose to honour the event. Food is the heart and soul of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, and we know we’re not alone in thinking that. This year, like every year before it, we can sink our teeth into greasy, sugar-coated, deep-fried goodness via drive-thru!

When: Friday, July 3rd – Sunday, July 12th
Where: Stampede Park – 1410 Olympic Way SE, Calgary and Around Calgary TBA
Time: 12 pm – 9 pm

CHECK OUT THIS YEAR’S VIRTUAL SHAKESPEARE BY THE BOW!

Theatre Calgary has re-worked their 2020 season! Shakespeare by the Bow is one of Calgary’s favourite summer park activities, but unfortunately, because of the virus, we won’t be able to enjoy the fresh Princes Island air while we watch. Instead, tune in online!

When: Until July 18th
Where: Online here
Time: 7 pm

VISIT ALBERTA’S BEST STAYCATION DESTINATIONS

You look like you could use a vacay. This weekend, check out some of Alberta’s best ‘getaway – but not too far away’ activities. From, animals and amazing views, to food, food and more food – hit up the link above for Killer Alberta’s staycation ideas.

EAT BREAKFAST… FOR CHARITY!

The only thing better than pancakes are pancakes – for charity! This July check out Greta Bar for their stampede inspired all-ages brekkie! Each stack of fluffy goodness will only cost you $5 which will go directly the Mustard Seed of Calgary in support of those who need it most.

When: Friday, July 3rd
Where: 213 10 Ave SW, Calgary
Time: 11 am – 4 pm

TAKE AN OUTDOOR LINE DANCING CLASS

Kick-off Stampede week with a safe and fun stampede themed line dancing event put together by dance company Puddle of Mud Productions. Tighten that belt, slip on those cowboy boots and yahoo to the country music stylings of your favourite artists.
