Your next winter bucket list activity? Snow-sailing Canada’s Arctic

Not going to lie, we kind of got into a tailspin researching this article before ending up at the idea of snow sailing in the Canadian Arctic. First, we were going to write about Fogo Island Inn. But then we thought, geez, for that kind of cash you could do practically anything. So then we thought about Canada’s most remote inns.

But, turns out that a lot of the northernmost settlements and research stations in Canada are kind of a bummer to visit. And instead, you can hop over to Iqaluit on Baffin Island to check out what Inukpak Outfitting does during the winter months.

An aside- why bother going to Canada’s Arctic in the first place? We can think of a few good reasons. First off, chances are high that absolutely nobody you know will have done the same thing. Sure, everyone goes scuba diving in Hawaii, but how many of your friends have crossed into the Arctic circle?
Second, the harsh beauty is worth seeing at least once in your life. Third, (and probably most relatable) is the opportunity to see the Northern Lights in all their glory.

Back to what you can do while you’re up there. Whether you’re hopping out for a snowshoe expedition or learning to build an igloo, Inukpak has got something for every Arctic explorer. However, the dog sledding excursions and snow sailing definitely top our list.

Dog sledding in the Canadian Arctic? Now you can truly be the Canadian stereotype the rest of the world wants you to be. No longer will you have to chuckle awkwardly when people ask you if you personally have done it.

And as for snow sailing, well, that’s just a crazy idea. Forget windsurfing, you can get vibey as heck out on the frozen tundra with nothing around you for miles. Hoo boy, that is 100% the opportunity of a lifetime. And we’re ready for it.
Now we just need to round up about $4k in order to be able to do so.
