Are you looking to sneak in a final getaway before summer is over? Well, you could hit the mountains, or you can explore the road less travelled. If that sounds interesting, then the Last Chance Saloon in Wayne, Alberta is right up your alley.

Part saloon and part hotel, this spot is all that remains of a once lively mining community just outside of Drumheller. A hundred or so years ago, you could have visited a post office or sent your kids to school. Now, not so much.

But somehow the Last Chance Saloon has endured. We don’t know what’s more impressive, the tales of raucous miners you’ll hear or the fact that you’re having a drink in what is essentially a ghost town. Either way, it’s bound to be memorable.

And to help create the memories, you’ll find vintage photos and antiques all throughout the saloon. Keep your eyes peeled for the three bullet holes in the wall, a frontier-style reminder of what happens to non-paying customers. Or, maybe catch a fellow patron playing a tune on the old piano.

We like to swing by after a day at the Royal Tyrrell Museum. But, if you’re feeling adventures, then you could stay at the attached hotel and explore the Badlands for a few days. Either way, we highly suggest stopping by.
