These photos and videos show how crazy Saturday’s storm in Calgary was

As we’re sure all of you are already aware, southern and central Alberta got absolutely dumped on over the weekend. Hail, rain, thunder, and lightning rocked Calgary and the surrounding area, damaging vehicles, flooding streets, giving us a sinister sky show, and ultimately causing tens of millions of dollars of damage. That number could be higher, as Calgary’s Mayor Naheed Nenshi stated that the damage could be as high as $1 billion.
For those who fled under the covers, or just couldn’t see through the egg-sized ice balls during Saturday’s storm in and around Calgary, some were able to catch the best and the worst of it, and man, was it ugly out there.
It all began with wild cloud formations, a gut feeling, and gusts of wind.

Oops, forgot to post this pic earlier. Nice pancake stacked shelf cloud rolling east past the Red Deer river this evening before she started falling apart. Looking south from Big Valley on Sec Hwy 590 at 9:40PM. #ABStorm pic.twitter.com/wT6xzX2ELh — Jeff Adams (@jeffmadams) June 13, 2020
Then, of course, we got an unbelievable amount of rain…

No Sleep Till… After the sun went down and everybody went home from chasing the day, I stuck around in the countryside awaiting a noctural thunderstorm to appear. The thunder gods granted me my wish east of Drumheller between 3-4:00AM this morning. #ABStorm #StormHour pic.twitter.com/2EPkEVx5Ti — Jeff Adams (@jeffmadams) June 13, 2020

Now that the worst of it is over, we hope all of you are okay! It’s been a while since Calgary has seen a storm quite like this, and we’re hoping it’s the last one we see for a long time. Our hearts are with everyone negatively affected.
2020 just won’t give us a break.
