The City of Calgary keeps on keeping on. Officials have just announced that they will now be relocating people from crowded homeless shelters into hotels, to prevent further spread of the Coronavirus.

This is a very important move to be made in order to help those less fortunate follow safety protocol. We can imagine how difficult it would be when you don’t have access to basic necessities or are sleeping elbow to elbow with another person.

According to Mayor, Naheed Nenshi, by relocating some of Calgary’s homeless to hotels or a motel they will be reducing shelter occupancy by over 400 people. This could make a world of difference!

Those remaining in shelters will continue to receive 24-7 services and now, will likely also be separated by barriers in all sleeping areas.

“Using underutilized motel and hotel rooms to assist in physical distancing and preventing the spread of the disease – is the right thing to do for Calgary,” said Nenshi on his Twitter, and we agree! The less people vulnerable the better!
