The City of Calgary might be banning shisha in public places

Well, it looks like the City of Calgary is considering banning shisha in public places, adding it to the list of banned products in the existing smoking bylaw. Obviously, few people would care if this meant that you can’t smoke shisha on the street corner, but instead, this law would directly affect all shisha bars and lounges in Calgary. Yikes.
This could be the beginning of the end for a ton of Calgary lounges that build their businesses around the sale and use of the herbal-tobacco blend.
Luckily for those who own Calgary shisha bars, these closures won’t happen overnight. If approved, the city will allow an 18-month implementation window. They hope this will give people enough time to plan and prepare for prohibition.

Last year, the city conducted a telephone survey where 66% of the 1,000 Calgarians who participated said they supported smoking shisha in specialized public places. But it looks like this wasn’t enough.
Other North American cities have also banned the use of the product indoors. Ottawa, Vancouver, Toronto, New York City, New Jersey, and Chicago have all restricted public use of shisha.
Sorry, guys. Looks like you’ll have to find a new social vice.
