Everything’s bigger in Texas– except for when you’re in Calgary. That’s right, we officially got the world’s largest YMCA (at 300,000 square-feet!), and it’s open for business in the SE with a surf simulator, a large library and tons of other cool features.
We’re pretty sure we could spend at least a few days here. With a competition-sized pool, two ice rinks, three gymnasiums, a 200-metre track, and an art gallery, this YMCA is definitely everything the Village People were talking about, and more.

Described as a “vibrant hub built with the community and for the community, a place where no one is turned away and everyone [is welcomed]”, this place seems pretty great. It might even compete with the Central Library for the coolest new spot, but don’t tell the librarians we said that. They’re sensitive.

Although the majority of services are open, competition and recreational pool areas are set to officially launch on March 1…which means you have a while to practice your best Michael Phelps impression. Personally, though, we’ll probably just kick it in the waterslide(s)/kiddie pool/lazy river/surf zone.

So what’re you waiting for, Calgary?! Go check it out already!
