Sobeys is holding Senior Shopping Hours amid COVID-19 crisis

Via CBC

As you probably know, one of the most at-risk groups during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis is the elderly. They are the most susceptible and tend to experience more severe symptoms. And while it is super important for them to be practicing social distancing during this time, basic needs still have to be met. Like buying groceries. It is recommended that people in the more vulnerable sector send someone else to pick up their essentials, but for some, that is not an option.

In an act of kindness, Sobeys has just announced that they will be holding special hours to combat this problem. Starting Friday, March 20th, all participating Sobeys locations will begin Senior Shopping Hour. This will devote the first hour of business to those who require a little extra help.

The Senior Shopping Hour aims to reduce the elderly’s risk of infection. And also ensure that they have access to certain items before they are bought out by panic-shoppers. Yeah, we’re talking about toilet paper. Stop hoarding that, please!

It’s a small act but it is sure to go a long way in preserving the safety of one of Canada’s most vulnerable groups. Stay healthy, folks!
