Thanks to good ol’ Miss Corona’s unplanned appearance, people around the world have been stripped of traditional milestones. Luckily, the creative population has taken matters into their own hands, restructuring weddings and birthdays to comply with physical distancing recommendations. This year, instead of walking the stage, some Calgary students will participate in a drive-thru grad to collect their high school diplomas. Oh, what a time to be alive.
We only wish we could’ve celebrated our success like we were grabbing a 3 am Big Mac, but alas, we had tripped up the stairs and awkwardly shook the sweaty hand of our principal. If you ask us, these kids are the luckiest bunch in grad history.
According to Global News, the graduation is set to take place on June 15th at the Stampede Grounds. Although this event hasn’t been endorsed by the Calgary Board of Education, it does sound pretty sweet.

Other than locking palms, it seems as though all other traditions are accounted for. Caps and gowns will still be worn, there will be cheering, speeches, and photo opportunities.
It should also be noted that the parents have gotten the green light from Alberta Health Services, who actually helped them safely “choreograph” the entire shindig, so it’s totally safe!
Sure, it looks a little chaotic, but what graduation ceremony isn’t! We honestly think this idea, and the parents who came up with it are incredible. We’re sending virtual fives to the rents and our congrats to the (drive-thru) grad class of 2020!
