Nenshi just shared his parents’ touching journey to Canada

While candidates prepare for the country’s 43rd battle royale, Naheed Nenshi is pulling on all our heartstrings. What a dude, reminding us why Canada is a country worth fighting over!
Nenshi reflects on his parent’s journey to red and white country in a two-minute video for Everyones Canada’s, a non-profit organization that encourages and supports Canadian multiculturalism. In the video, Nenshi, Calgary’s longest-serving mayor, expresses the importance of inclusion and equal opportunity for all. Preach!
He chats about how his parents worked at the base of Kilimanjaro with Canadian aid workers who had copies of the Toronto Sun delivered to them.

Then, his father had seen a photo of the “brand new” City hall building in Toronto, and vowed that one day he would see the building in person.
The family later moved to Canada and had found their place thanks to other immigrants and an accepting community. We hope his dad saw City Hall :’)
“It doesn’t matter what you look like, or where you came from or how you worship, or whom you love: you belong here. And you belong to be here and to have a great Canadian life,” said Naheed Nenshi.
The 47-year old mayor ended the video by reminiscing about when he was sworn in over nine years ago. Also, he discussed how his story, although extrodinary, isn’t ordinary in Canada. Thanks for the wholesome moment, Nenshi!
