More dockless bikes are coming Calgary’s way

Limebike - dockless bikes in Calgary

Watch out Lime! Looks like the neon green bikes might be getting some not-so-friendly competition. Why? Because the City of Calgary just put out a call for more companies to offer dockless bike-share services here in YYC! Oh, snap.

Looks like Calgarians took quite the shine to dockless bikes. Braving the colder temps, Calgarians went on more than 50,000 trips on the 375 electric peddle-assist bikes this winter. With Lime only launching in October, those are some pretty impressive numbers.

If you were frustrated with Lime not being in your part of town, don’t worry! The city’s call for more dockless bikes means that the service will be more widespread. Other companies might bring different players to the table too, like non-ebikes, scooters, or cargo bikes (a long lost descendant of cargo shorts).

Also, if you were frustrated with Lime being around too much, well… this may not be the news you were hoping for. Let’s all hope we don’t see any abhorrent scooter/bike abuse in our city.
