Oy vey. Well, folks. Premier Jason Kenney addressed the province this afternoon and as many have predicted, Alberta will take a step back, putting several new temporary COVID measures into place for the next two weeks until November 27th.
According to Kenney, these measures are targeted, temporary, and are meant to “aggressively bring our numbers down” especially in major cities like Calgary and Edmonton.
Starting tomorrow, November 13th, Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, and Fort McMurray will be asked to suspend all indoor group fitness classes, recreational team sports, and performance activities for two weeks. Gyms can stay open, but classes & groups are a no-no.

Kenney also announced that the number of people that will be allowed to attend weddings or funerals has been reduced to 50 and that family gatherings must not exceed 15 people.
In addition to these measures, restaurants and bars in all cities that have more than 50 cases per 100,000 people (Calgary and Edmonton) will be required to cease all liquor sales by 10 pm. Plus, these places will have to close by 11 pm.
Finally, the Premier has asked that all casual gatherings, social or otherwise happen virtually instead of in-person to prevent people from sharing close quarters.
“COVID is starting to win, and we cannot let that happen,” he said.
So, Alberta. There you have it our new temporary COVID measures. The next two weeks are what might determine what Christmas 2020 could look like, so it’s important that you stay safe, stay home, wash your hands, and follow the guidelines. We’ve got this.
