How to Celebrate St. Patrick's day at home

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Calgary! Today is a toughie because, on any other March 17th, we’d be out boozing and schmoozing with the best of ’em. This year, though, our health is coming first and yours should too! We hope that many of you have chosen to socially distance yourself, but we also hope that you’re still having fun!

Leopold’s, Dicken’s Pub and The Ship and Anchor are just a few of YYC’s party hubs that have chosen to close their doors to the public tonight to ensure everyone’s safety.  Really, they had no excuse not to. Ireland has postponed, or just outright cancelled their St. celebrations, and if they can to do it, so can we.

Instead here are a few things you can do to get your Patty on from home!

MAKE YOUR OWN GREEN BEER

St. Patrick's Day

Grab that six-pack of Pabst your buddy left in your fridge over a month ago, the biggest glass that you have, hell, grab a bowl even, we’re not here to judge, and just add a few drops of green food colouring. Carefully though! There is a technique to this. Trust us, you don’t want to know what green tastes like.

“ATTEND” THE DROPKICK MURPHY’S LIVE STREAM CONCERT

This Irish punk band has thrown the ultimate St. Patty’s party every single year and 2020 is no different. Catch the live steam of this annual concert on their website here!

HOST A “ST.PATRICK’S DAY” NETFLIX PARTY

You watch horror movies on Halloween and holiday movies on Christmas, why not watch an “Irish Classic” on St. Patty’s day. This can mean pretty much whatever you want it to mean. Some think Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie, and to that we say, Yippee-ki-NAY, you’re wrong. Anyway, whether you feel like uncontrollably crying your way through P.S. I Love You or streaming something more upbeat like The Departed or The Quiet Man, we recommend also using the Netflix Party app. Call it a celebratory move!

ORDER-IN SOME NO-CONTACT IRISH GRUB

We can’t say that we’re very well versed in “Irish Cuisine,” so we googled it. Shepard’s pie, stew, Dublin cottle? Hell yeah! Sounds like dinner! Despite being closed to the public, a lot of restaurants are still offering take-out, and they can be delivered without making any contact. For that, we can be thank-full.

Not bad for a couple of quarantine, kids, hey? This will all be over before you know it, folks!
