This week, Canada officially hit a coronavirus patient recovery rate of over 50%. That means that over half the people who have contracted the virus are now good to go! Nice to see, and speaks to Canada’s ability to flatten the curve nationwide.

Global emissions are dropping this year

Definitely a silver lining, but scientists are estimating that the coronavirus pandemic will have a significant impact on global CO2 emissions. In fact, they could drop up to 13% in 2020, and so far are down roughly 17% worldwide. Reduced traffic, industry, all that!

Canada announces first vaccine trials

Health Canada approved the nation’s first clinical vaccine trial this week. It will go down at Dalhousie University, and represents yet another step forward in dealing with the ongoing pandemic from every angle.

A heartwarming exchange at Costco went down

On Friday, one of the uncountable acts of kindness happened at a Costco gas bar in Edmonton. A gas station attendant decided to pay for a customer’s gas, asking only that they ‘pay it forward’. Well, that person is the mom of TV star Nathan Fillion, and he decided to pay it forward by donating iPads to local hospitals.

The NHL continued to push forward for playoffs

In the world of sports, the NHL announced this week that it was committing to a 24-team playoff schedule for the 2019-20 season. There’s still a little negotiating to be had with the Players’ Association, but hey, we’re happy to see that a playoff run could still be in the works for our favourite teams.
