Forbes recently released its list of the best employers in Canada, and we’re going to give you a little rundown on it. However, instead of championing the top 5, we thought it would be funnier to see if there are any trends or surprises.

Quebec dominated the top 10 with 5 companies present, ranging from Hydro-Quebec to Concordia University. If you thought that Alberta’s top employer was oil and gas related, you’d be surprised to find out that it’s actually Avis Budget Group. You know, the car rental agency.

Here’s the top ten for you to check out:

▪ Google
▪ University of Toronto
▪ Avis Budget Group
▪ Pratt & Whitney
▪ Saint Mary’s University
▪ Hydro-Québec
▪ Ubisoft
▪ Concordia University
▪ Microsoft
▪ RTL Longueuil

general dynamics

General Dynamics, the aerospace and defence company, comes in at number 13. We wonder how that will change in response to recent political developments. Will they be hurt by our stance against Saudi Arabia? Will they benefit when Trump gets crazy enough to declare a national emergency over a space force? Only time will tell.

The best company to work for in British Columbia is *drumroll please* Ledcor Group. Yikes, BC, it’s kind of a bad look when your best employer deals in construction, oil & gas and mining/chemicals. No judgement though, this is a capitalist world, after all.

If we’re picking our personal favourite from the list, it’s got to be Costco. Even their low-level employees have a great wage and solid benefits plan, probably because Costco can get you anything under the sun, just as long as you’re willing to buy it in bulk.

There’s our roundup of Forbes Top 100 Employers list! We’re not too sure how reputable their sources are, though, since Curiocity should obviously be sitting at the top. Next year, maybe!
