“Drive with vigilance!” Parts of Alberta to get up to 20cm of snow this week

We knew that this day would come, we just didn’t think it would come so soon… even though we should have because it is October in the prairies. The snow is on its way, Alberta, and with it, a friendly reminder from the government to drive safely!

Ready or not, most of the province will see our powdered nemesis this week as the cold arctic air moves through the region.

As always, the mountains will see the worst of it. Banff, Jasper, and Canmore can expect a fluffy 20 cm by tomorrow afternoon, so please be careful if you’re headed that way!

Southern Alberta, on the other hand, will likely see wet snow as early as this evening. Less than ideal driving conditions are in our near future, friends!

“Motorists, continue to drive with vigilance and lookout for the odd slippery spot; leave appropriate stopping distance,” said AHS in a recent tweet.

This year, we’ve actually seen an above-average fall, with temperatures rarely dipping below a solid 5 degrees. Thank Yonce’.  

Unfortunately, that does mean it’s been a long while since we’ve had to worry about anything but cyclists while behind the wheel. Because of this, it’s important to be extra prepared, be extra smart, and to be extra alert while on the road.
