Alright Calgary, we’ve seen some pretty dark days in recent months. Anyone else out there ready to embrace some positivity? Well, in that case, we are pleased to announce a new social media campaign launching this Monday especially for you.

In partnership with the ALS Society of Alberta, we’ll be kicking off the Seize The Day Challenge leading up to a variety of annual walk and run events throughout the province later this month in support of ALS client support and research.

Starting Monday, June 8, we challenge YOU to spend 14 days paying attention to and sharing, the little everyday things that bring you happiness. The intention behind the campaign is to inspire Albertans to focus on the positive, find a sense of gratitude, and live each day to the fullest. With the ongoing pandemic and social injustices of the world, it’s important we still choose to appreciate and make the most of every day just as so many patients and family members affected by ALS choose to do.

So, how do you Seize The Day? Do you meditate? Do you drink your morning coffee outside? Do you run in a park? Maybe you’ve been seizing the day lately by participating in our city’s peaceful protests? Whatever you do to make the most of each day, we want to know! Along with local personalities including athletes, politicians, musicians, business owners, and other familiar faces, we will be encouraging Albertans to share with us one thing they do to Seize The Day, every day.

And if challenging yourself and your loved ones to spread some positivity isn’t enough, we’ve got some great prizes we’re going to be giving away!

Here’s how to participate:

  • Starting Monday, June 8, post to social media how you are choosing to “Seize The Day” that day using the hashtag #seizetheday4ALS
  • This could be whatever small thing brings you happiness, instills gratitude or a sense of wellbeing, or a specific action you’re taking to make the most of the day!
  • Tag 3 of your friends and challenge them to do the same

That’s it!

You might opt to participate in all 14 days, or maybe just a few, but our hope is that this online initiative will lead to an improvement in Calgarian’s overall physical and mental health, while simultaneously raising awareness for the ALS Society of Alberta and their annual Betty’s Run happening on Sunday, June 21st.
