We hope you feel well-rested, folks, because you’re going to want to stay up well past sunset tonight. Comet NEOWISE, the most photogenic flaming iceball the earth has seen in 6,000 years will be the closest to the earth this freaking evening!

Our fingers are crossed for clear skies world wide tonight, as it begins moving farther away from our planet tomorrow. According to reliable space-centric website Earth’s Sky, if we’re cloud-free, it’ll be pretty hard to miss.

To find big boy NEOWISE, they actually recommend looking up to the Big Dipper first. Once found, look down and left to see it! Though it will be visible to the naked eye, it might be a good idea to bring a pair of binoculars if you have them. Have a telescope? Even better!

Fun fact, according to NASA, Comet NEOWISE is estimated to have formed 4.6 billion years ago, around the same time as the solar system. To give you an idea of how hot this big boy is burning, despite it only being 5 kilometres wide, we’re able to see it from 103 million kilometres away. Somehow they were able to figure all of this out with infrared data with visible-light images. Fascinating.

If you’re going to take our word for anything, let it be this. You don’t want to miss this, guys!
