Calgary was hotter than parts of Florida on Monday, as it breaks an all-time record

Well, it’s been a ride, friends. In the last few weeks, Calgary has seen record-breaking low, as well as record-breaking high temperatures. In fact, to our surprise, we even beat out the notoriously warm Florida City on Monday with an incredible 23.1°C.
Now although YYC is typically pretty chilly this time of year, averaging around 5°C, that doesn’t mean we haven’t seen the thermostat like this before. It’s a rarity, but it has happened!

As you can see, 45 years ago, Calgary actually hit its previous monthly high of 22.8°C, which the city was finally able to top on the 2nd.
In fact, all of Alberta is experiencing extremely warm temperatures, with Drumheller breaking the provincial record, even surpassing Freeport in the Bahamas with 25.9°C. Wowza.
Unfortunately, these history-making numbers aren’t expected to stick around much longer as the cooler Arctic air rolls in – but maybe this week was a little teaser for what’s to come. Are we expecting more record-breaking temperatures of 30°C in mid-December? No, but it might be nice to experience a more comfortable winter.
Seriously, the last thing we need in 2020 is anyone losing a finger or any of their toes to that Alberta bite.
