Okay so, bias aside, Canada is honestly one of the greatest countries in the world to play, learn or master a winter sport. Unfortunately, no thanks to COVID, team-play just hasn’t been the same, and neither has our status of a beloved core. One city, however, is ready to fight for what’s ours. In partnership with Tourism Calgary and Winsport, YYC has announced that they’re looking to become an International sports hub city… they’re just not ready to announced what that sport is yet.

To say that they weren’t inspired by Edmonton’s successful run as an NHL hub city would be a lie, but if they can do it, so can we, right?!

“We’re in conversations on a couple of major bubbles that could potentially come to Calgary,” Tourism Calgary senior vice-president of sales Carson Ackroyd told The Canadian Press.

Calgary’s Winsport at Canada Olympic Park is the perfect place to host so it’s only natural at a time like this to make a bid for something. It’s popular, historic, and not only can it accommodate one sport but several different ones all at the same time. Why the heck not!?

Whatever league or event they have chosen to pursue, we’d be happy to watch and support. Being an international sports hub sounds like it would be fun no matter the game. Honestly, we just really miss live sports, so bring it on, world! We’re waiting!
